Tabata

Some say that anything worthwhile takes time and doesn’t come easily. We’re here to prove that old saying wrong. The number 4 is going to be your key to success with this quick fitness calendar and complementary playlist. 4 weeks. 4-minute workouts. 4-minute songs. We’ve created the perfect workout calendar for you.

If you’re not familiar with Tabata routines, you’ve been missing out on the best 4 minutes of your life. Tabata is a variation of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). HIIT routines are high energy workouts that help burn fat in a shorter amount of time by boosting your metabolism, increasing your lean muscle strength, cardiovascular system, and lung capacity. Tabata was discovered by Japanese scientist Dr. Izumi Tabata and his team of researchers at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo. While comparing two groups, one group worked for five days a week for an hour, at moderate pace and another group worked 4 days a week for 4 minutes and 20 seconds at a high intensity pace. The end result showed that the second group increased both their cardio and muscular system. Thus Tabata was born.

Tabata routines work as follows: 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest. This equals one 30 second round. Depending on how many rounds you have, your end goal becomes 4 minutes total of 8, 30 second rounds. You can do 8 different exercises, 4, or 2, it’s your call. The more diversity in the workout, the more challenging it is, the more muscle groups you target and the better your results will be. This calendar is here to give you these results. 4 weeks of various Tabata routines with the perfect 4-minute song to go with each workout. The songs are high energy and upbeat. When the song ends, your workout ends. 4 minutes listening to amazing music, 4 minutes working out, and most importantly, forever creating lifelong results for your body. You can’t beat that.

Review exercises ahead of time so you know what to expect from your workout. Some workouts have multiple videos, so make sure you only follow the video assigned for that specific day. Work hard from beginning to end, enjoy your rest days, and remember that good things can come at a fast pace.

An Easy Aid in the Prevention of Colds!

November 3rd, 2014 | Posted by Deborah in Cool Tips - (Comments Off on An Easy Aid in the Prevention of Colds!)

Use Apple Cider Vinegar to Prevent (and Treat!) Colds and the Flu

I thought this was a very interesting article about an easy and natural way to help in the prevention of colds and wanted to pass it along.  The article is from Organic Authority  by   .  Here’s to a healthy winter season!

Apple cider vinegar is pretty incredible stuff. But did you know it can be helpful in preventing the onset of colds and the flu?

Even in California, winter can mean a pretty nasty cold and flu season. We spent Thanksgiving in the throes of stuffy woes…and with a newborn baby it was no fun. Had I been less distracted (as in, not having a newborn!), I would have realized the time of year and all the germs that come with it. But before we knew it, there was mucus. Lots and lots of mucus.

With my normal wits about me, I would have done my best to prevent coming down with the flu by using apples-366x550apple cider vinegar, especially after we had guests flying in from all over the country to see the baby—and coming straight from the germy airport to our house! But of course, I missed the window and we all got sick, baby too.

While it’s highly acidic, apple cider vinegar actually helps the body to keep pH levels balanced, which can help prevent colds and flu germs from getting cozy in your nose and chest. A properly alkalized body is unappealing to germs.

Most of us tend to run a bit more acidic, thanks to the standard American diet, so it’s no wonder we spend the winter months battling germs.

Prevention.com says drinking a tablespoon or two of ACV at the first onset of a cold or the flu—or when someone close to you has it — will help prevent the full on bout of ick. If drinking it straight up is too much for you, mix it in with water, or hot tea and some maple syrup. You can also add it to salad dressings.

If you waited too long and have been hit by a cold or the flu, drink the vinegar anyway. It’ll help your body fight off the germs, give you some energy and help improve your digestion.

You can also use it to get rid of a sinus or chest infection. For a sinus infection or stuffy head, add 1/8 of a cup of ACV to the water in a vaporizer and leave on over night.

Have You Tried a Tabata Workout?

The 4 Minute Workout – Is Tabata Training the Ultimate Fat Burner?

Posted in Share It Fitness

Tabata training is nothing new, but talk to any personal trainer, fitness head, or blogger, and it’s clear this training method is experiencing something of a resurgence in popularity.  It comes as no surprise – recent coverage on major media sources like CNN and Fox News have detailed recent studies demonstrating the powerful effects of Tabata training.  One such study out of Auburn University, led by Exercise Science professor Michele Olson, showed Tabata training can be as effective as five times as much standard cardio exercise, as measured by calories burned.  What this means is, your eight minutes of Tabata training will Tabataburn the same number of calories as that 40 minute jog on the treadmill!

Surprisingly, this Auburn study was the first time anyone looked to see exactly how many calories Tabata training burned, as well as what kind of metabolic increase it generated. Olson found that intense Tabata training can burn up to 13.5 calories per minute, making it one of the very best forms of exercise for those wanting fast, yet consistent, fat loss.  Not only that, Olson found Tabata training increased metabolic rate (number of calories you burn) for 30 minutes post-exercise.  This means even when you’re back in your office after that lunch break workout, your body is continuing to burn calories like you’re still working out.

So what does this mean for you?  This means if you’re trying to lose some LB’s, tighten up, and/or increase your endurance, Tabata training is exactly what the doctor ordered.  Additionally, if you’re one of those people short on time (isn’t this nearly everybody?), Tabata training is a fantastic way to minimize your time spent working out, while maximizing the benefits of your training.

10. Dried Fruit/Nut Mix. Forget store-bought mixes that are loaded with extra salt and too many chocolate candies. Mix your own blend of dried fruits and nuts for a snack that offers healthy omega-3 fats plus protein. Toss in a few dark chocolate chips for an antioxidant boost—but just a few!

11. Grapefruit. Eating grapefruit can be part of a smart weight loss plan. Why? It’s believed the acidity in the citrus fruit slows down digestion. If you’re taking medications, check with your doctor first; grapefruit can interfere with some drugs.

12. Chili Peppers. Weight loss foods don’t come any hotter than chili peppers, which contain a substance called capsaicin, believed to be a natural metabolism booster.

Healthy Snacking for Diet Success and for Re-fueling Your Brain as Well as Your Body

Think you can’t snack when you’re trying to lose weight? Think again. This healthy, low-calorie snack will satisfy your diet cravings and help you reach your weight-loss goals.

Homemade Trail Mix

For many women, dieting equals food restriction. Snacks? They usually get eliminated in the name of saving calories. But snacking when you’re watching your weight is actually a good idea. “[When dieting,] people often wait too long in between meals, so by the time they eat, they’re so hungry, their portions or choices are out of control,” says Linda McLachlan, RD, CDN, a New Jersey dietitian with Nutrition Matters, LLC. “Snacking helps keep you satisfied and wards off cravings.” Here, seven low-calorie snacks to help you with your diet goals.
Homemade Trail Mix
“Diet-friendly snacking doesn’t necessarily have to be low-fat,” says McLachlan. What’s more important: Portion size. A homemade trail mix of walnuts, mini chocolate chips, and raisins is a snack that’s satisfying (thanks to the sweetness and fat) and healthy for a dieter if portion sizes are kept in check. “Mix a palm full of walnuts with a pinch of chocolate chips and a pinch of raisins — it’s not always realistic to measure,” says McLachlan.
Recommended serving size: about 1 ounce of walnuts and about a teaspoon each of raisins and chocolate chips
Calories: about 250 fitnessmagazine
