Article from Manhattan with a Twist:

by

Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner. With the arrival of warm weather comes a necessary change in your beauty regime. From skincare to hair care, all the way to make-up, it’s important to cater to the seasons and look your absolute best. We’ve got the products to help you get there!

revitalash-brow-gel

Bold brows are showing no signs of going out of style anytime soon and thanks to Cara Delevigne, women everywhere are doing whatever they can to enhance their eyebrows. Forget pesky pencils and powders, RevitaLash Cosmetics has the solution to your brow problems. Their Hi-Def Tinted Brow Gel ($32) not only fills in any sparse or thin areas in your eyebrows, but also helps to control, enhance and condition those sometimes unruly brows of yours. Boldly defining the brows, keeping them in place and making them look au natural, this hot item is our new favorite staple in our make-up bag.

milani-fierce-foil-lipgloss

Spring is all about shimmer and shine. Lucky for us, Milani’s Fierce Foil Lipgloss gives lips a serious new way to pucker up. Formulated with multidimensional pearlescent that captures light, the lipgloss gives lips a pop of color and dazzling shimmer. Everyone knows that too much heat and styling can damage your hair and with the warm, sunny skies, more and more of us are trying to look our best. I.C.O.N.‘s India 24k Richly Exotic Masque ($40.50) works to detangle and condition your hair with restorative and hydrating Moringa, Argan, amber, coconut and olive fruit tree oils. Its use of antioxidants strengthens the hair to make it shiny and smooth and heal any damage done by styling and heat. Unlike other hair masques, this one really works wonders and you can feel the change immediately.

first-degree-burn-cream-spray

When the weather starts getting warm, the hair starts getting big. Many of us use hair straighteners or curlers to tame our frizzy hair in the spring and summer seasons, and I don’t know about you, but I’ve fallen prey to the accidental burn quite a few times. First Degree Multi-Symptom Burn Cream and Pain Relief Burn Spray are two products that work hand in hand with one another. The cream treats epidermal burns to soothe, prevent infection and reduce the appearance of scars. The spray provides the highest level of pain relief and together, they can solve those pesky burn problems in a heartbeat.

0.2-fragrance

There’s a song about summer lovin’ for a reason. If you’re looking for a summer romance, we suggest you kick start it with 0.2 Fragrance ($120/100mL, $80/50mL, $40/7.5mL), a unisex scent that is designed to evoke excitement and inspiration. Developed by Holly Riddel, the scent was created based off of the statistic that states the love at first sight only takes a fraction of a second. The scent combines Italian bergamot and spearmint to create an enchanting and alluring smell, sure to capture the attention of many. Get spritzing!

eraclea-reaffirming-products

With the sun out in full force, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated and looking its best. Eraclea is a skincare company with a line of products that utilize the patented HylaSponge System, which basically acts as a second skin to deliver hyaluronic acid to both hydrate and moisturize the skin. This system, along with antioxidants, vitamins, peptides and botanicals, come together to create a line of products that will keep your skin looking younger and fresher. Their latest products, which launched this spring, include the detox-oxygenating reaffirming mask ($60), multi-action reaffirming face serum ($90), and eye contour reaffirming serum ($65). These new products were developed using cellusomes of Eryngium, a sea holly plant, which provides the ultimate hydration to the skin.

essenza

Keep free of germs with Essenza ($3.99-$4.99), a line of luxurious hand soaps that keep your hands soft and smooth (and perfect to hold) with essential oils, shea butter and aloe. Not only do they clean and pamper your hands, but they also come in a range a delicious smelling scents, including rosemary mint, pear glace, South Pacific waters, mango agave and more. Best of all, they are easy to use with hand pumps and are extremely affordable!

cool-it-caddy

All ladies know that the heat of the sun can melt a popsicle in a heartbeat. But since make-up is quite a bit pricier than a popsicle, it’s a damn shame when traveling and your make-up gets ruined. Enter the Cool-It Caddy ($24.95-$29.95)! This line of compact cases and carriers have a built in coolant system to ensure your make-up stays intact, even when lounging at the beach. Coming in a range of styles and designs, the Cool-It Caddy is a perfect addition to any beauty babe’s must-haves this spring and summer. And no need to restrict your caddy to just carrying make-up, the bags can be used to keep sunscreens, snacks and drinks cool, too!

Those of us who don’t clean our make-up brushes on the regular can become victim to unsightly blemishes. Keep you skin clear and your brushes in tip-top shape with Japonesque‘s Solid Brush Cleanser ($20). The cleanser gives you two in one action, not only removing bacteria and make-up buildup from your brush, but also deep conditioning the bristles, as well. Using gentle goat milk and a freshly scent formula, this cleanser is easy to use and mess-free. Not only is it effective, but you can easily take it with you wherever you travel this summer.

Sticking to your New Years Resolutions?

January 14th, 2015 | Posted by Deborah in Cool Tips - (Comments Off on Sticking to your New Years Resolutions?)

It’s not always so easy!

We have the best of intentions when we state our New Years resolutions but how easy is it to stick to them?  I have a few goals for myself that I thought I would share to hopefully inspire those seeking to get into shape and eat healthier.  We will check back in on these in about two months to see how it is going for me (and you!).

  • Tabata Classes.   I’m going to hit the gym and my Tabata classes at least twice a week. It you haven’t tried it yet, it is a great workout. So what does this mean for you?  This means if you’re Tabatatrying to lose some weight, tighten up, and/or increase your endurance, Tabata training is exactly what the doctor ordered.  Additionally, if you’re one of those people short on time (isn’t this nearly everybody?), Tabata training is a fantastic way to minimize your time spent working out, while maximizing the benefits of your training.

  •   Eating Healthy.  I am going to pack my healthy snacks (hard boiled egg, celery with peanut butter, almonds  and some fruit) into baggies and then into my snack pack……Icepops by Cool-it Caddy.   These bags have an integrated Icepops Trio1coolant that you pop into your freezer until frozen and then ‘grab and go’.  Your healthy snacks (or any heat sensitive items such as makeup or medications) are protected and kept icy cool while on the go.  The bags are small enough to fit into a tote, backpack, tennis bag, golf bag, etc.  Great for traveling also because you can skip the airport fast food! Icepops are available at Cool-itCaddy and come in four  great colors!

  • Stress less. Enjoy life, family and friends.  Blog post photo Jordan

An Easy Aid in the Prevention of Colds!

November 3rd, 2014 | Posted by Deborah in Cool Tips - (Comments Off on An Easy Aid in the Prevention of Colds!)

Use Apple Cider Vinegar to Prevent (and Treat!) Colds and the Flu

I thought this was a very interesting article about an easy and natural way to help in the prevention of colds and wanted to pass it along.  The article is from Organic Authority  by   .  Here’s to a healthy winter season!

Apple cider vinegar is pretty incredible stuff. But did you know it can be helpful in preventing the onset of colds and the flu?

Even in California, winter can mean a pretty nasty cold and flu season. We spent Thanksgiving in the throes of stuffy woes…and with a newborn baby it was no fun. Had I been less distracted (as in, not having a newborn!), I would have realized the time of year and all the germs that come with it. But before we knew it, there was mucus. Lots and lots of mucus.

With my normal wits about me, I would have done my best to prevent coming down with the flu by using apples-366x550apple cider vinegar, especially after we had guests flying in from all over the country to see the baby—and coming straight from the germy airport to our house! But of course, I missed the window and we all got sick, baby too.

While it’s highly acidic, apple cider vinegar actually helps the body to keep pH levels balanced, which can help prevent colds and flu germs from getting cozy in your nose and chest. A properly alkalized body is unappealing to germs.

Most of us tend to run a bit more acidic, thanks to the standard American diet, so it’s no wonder we spend the winter months battling germs.

Prevention.com says drinking a tablespoon or two of ACV at the first onset of a cold or the flu—or when someone close to you has it — will help prevent the full on bout of ick. If drinking it straight up is too much for you, mix it in with water, or hot tea and some maple syrup. You can also add it to salad dressings.

If you waited too long and have been hit by a cold or the flu, drink the vinegar anyway. It’ll help your body fight off the germs, give you some energy and help improve your digestion.

You can also use it to get rid of a sinus or chest infection. For a sinus infection or stuffy head, add 1/8 of a cup of ACV to the water in a vaporizer and leave on over night.

Have You Tried a Tabata Workout?

October 21st, 2014 | Posted by Deborah in Cool Tips - (Comments Off on Have You Tried a Tabata Workout?)

The 4 Minute Workout – Is Tabata Training the Ultimate Fat Burner?

Posted in Share It Fitness

Tabata training is nothing new, but talk to any personal trainer, fitness head, or blogger, and it’s clear this training method is experiencing something of a resurgence in popularity.  It comes as no surprise – recent coverage on major media sources like CNN and Fox News have detailed recent studies demonstrating the powerful effects of Tabata training.  One such study out of Auburn University, led by Exercise Science professor Michele Olson, showed Tabata training can be as effective as five times as much standard cardio exercise, as measured by calories burned.  What this means is, your eight minutes of Tabata training will Tabataburn the same number of calories as that 40 minute jog on the treadmill!

Surprisingly, this Auburn study was the first time anyone looked to see exactly how many calories Tabata training burned, as well as what kind of metabolic increase it generated. Olson found that intense Tabata training can burn up to 13.5 calories per minute, making it one of the very best forms of exercise for those wanting fast, yet consistent, fat loss.  Not only that, Olson found Tabata training increased metabolic rate (number of calories you burn) for 30 minutes post-exercise.  This means even when you’re back in your office after that lunch break workout, your body is continuing to burn calories like you’re still working out.

So what does this mean for you?  This means if you’re trying to lose some LB’s, tighten up, and/or increase your endurance, Tabata training is exactly what the doctor ordered.  Additionally, if you’re one of those people short on time (isn’t this nearly everybody?), Tabata training is a fantastic way to minimize your time spent working out, while maximizing the benefits of your training.

Never fear! We have 12 clean eating snacks to help you lose weight and feel better about what you’re putting into your body.

The fact is that you do need nutritious snacks if you want to shed pounds. For years, conventional wisdom has told us that it’s best to eat those 3 square meals a day. The problem is that during the long stretches between meals, blood sugar drops, creating cravings that take you on a direct path to the nearest chip bag. By adding a healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack to your meal plan, you can avoid the blood sugar dips that transform you into a raving carb or sugar monster.

That’s where clean eating snacks come in. Clean eating is a choice that puts the focus on enjoying foods that are minimally processed and have little or no added sodium or sugar. What’s more, clean eating foods don’t have the chemical additives found in many store brands. You get all the benefits of whole natural food, without the preservatives and artificial colorings the body wasn’t designed to process.

Then make these low-calorie snacks a regular part of your shopping list. You’ll find it’s easier to stick to healthy choices when nutritious foods are within reach. Remember to tuck snacks, like dried fruit and nut mix, into your purse or bag so you can quell hunger whenever it hits, whether it’s during the mid-afternoon office lull or after yoga class.

12 Clean-Eating Snacks

1. Apples. You cannot go wrong with apples. They help lower cholesterol by regulating blood sugar and by helping to control the appetite. Eat them fresh or enjoy them in easy-to-make Baked Apple Chips.

2. Peanut Butter and Honey Oat Bars. Instead of reaching for a packaged granola bar, which often floods the body with too much sugar, try these clean eating snacks. Bake a batch, and then keep them handy in the fridge for a healthy grab-n-go snack.

3. Strawberries. This fruit is a natural choice for a weight loss snack. One cup has 100% of your daily vitamin C and it delivers plenty of body-loving antioxidants. Skinny Mini Strawberry Cheesecake takes only a few minutes to prepare and a perfect weight loss treat.

4. Radishes. When you have a taste for variety in your snack food menu, ravishing radishes are the veggie for you. Each little radish has only 1 calorie. Yep. One calorie. Enjoy them with Zucchini Hummus.

5. Bananas. The original superfood, the banana is low in calories and high in healthy carbohydrates that provide endurance and energy. This fruit also contains potassium, which helps regulate blood pressure. Another ideal dessert treat when counting calories is Skinny Mini Banana Pudding.

6. Hard-Boiled Egg. We now understand that eggs are not the health food bad guys we once thought. A single hard-boiled egg is an ideal snack that delivers the protein your muscles need to grow, and, in turn, burn more calories. Deviled Egg, anyone? At 98 calories for one egg, you can’t go wrong.

Whole-Grain-Cinnamon-Pita-Chips7. Whole-Grain Cinnamon Pita Chips. When you want a snack on the sweet side, this is one clean eating snack that delivers. You won’t find processed, chemical, who-knows-what in these tasty treats. (Just remember to stick to the 8-chip portion size)

8. Greek Yogurt. With more protein than its conventional counterpart, Greek yogurt will fill you up and provide a healthy dose of the probiotics that reduce bloating. That’s an all-around snacking win in our book! Try it in this Curry-Style Greek Yogurt Dip.

9. Broccoli. Nosh on this superfood for the benefit of powerful antioxidants and stomach-filling fiber. Your cells will love the nutritional boost, and you’ll love that you feel full enough to avoid unhealthy snack attacks. Pair broccoli with Skinny Ms. Ranch Dip.

10. Dried Fruit/Nut Mix. Forget store-bought mixes that are loaded with extra salt and too many chocolate candies. Mix your own blend of dried fruits and nuts for a snack that offers healthy omega-3 fats plus protein. Toss in a few dark chocolate chips for an antioxidant boost—but just a few!

11. Grapefruit. Eating grapefruit can be part of a smart weight loss plan. Why? It’s believed the acidity in the citrus fruit slows down digestion. If you’re taking medications, check with your doctor first; grapefruit can interfere with some drugs.

12. Chili Peppers. Weight loss foods don’t come any hotter than chili peppers, which contain a substance called capsaicin, believed to be a natural metabolism booster.
